Writing Essay Topics: Thinking Like Youre Writing an Essay Topic

Writing Essay Topics: Thinking Like You're Writing an Essay TopicAn interesting article in the Wall Street Journal recently discussed the importance of thinking of things as if you were writing an essay topic. In particular, the article referred to you might have read this morning about a chart showing how employment rates have increased over the past four years. The chart represented four consecutive quarters of increasing employment rates.Think about it for a moment. In the first quarter of 2020, unemployment was at its highest level ever. During the second quarter, employment was at its lowest level ever. Since then, it has risen, although marginally.Read that again, and see if it makes sense. Clearly, some sort of movement is taking place, but it's not a movement towards growth. Instead, it's a movement away from growth. An economy that is dependent on growth is now growing more slowly than it was in the years prior to the recession. Now, we could go back to thinking in terms of w orking through a topic that, if you like, is an essay topic, or it could be a sale or negotiation topic, or it could be a business strategy topic. However, think of it this way. If you're trying to persuade someone to buy a particular product, you wouldn't tell them that you had a $7 million hedge fund position, you would say something like, 'I'm going to talk about profits this week, or next week, or the week after.'Once again, we have to get back to the fact that real research and real analysis are doing things as if you were writing an essay topic. When you're working through your topic, what do you do? You sit down and ask yourself some questions that bring up a thought or two that will help you gain a much-needed perspective. The next time you go over your topic, do you think about the future? How do you feel about the subject? What are the scenarios that you're creating in your mind when you're writing about the subject? Once you're able to answer these questions, you're well o n your way to gaining a better perspective on the subject, and therefore, helping you write a better essay topic. These are some of the ways that you can think of things as if you were writing an essay topics. The benefits are enormous, and I guarantee that you'll find that you'll be much more engaged and successful with your topic.
